Expedited Passports

To expedite a passport, applicants apply in the same manner as for a regular passport. Normal passport processing time can be up to 6 weeks, not including a 2-week time frame to and from the passport agency. Expediting is the answer for applicants who need a passport sooner (up to 3 weeks), not including a 2-week time frame to and from the passport agency.

Expediting Fees

For Adults (16 & Older):

  • Add $60 to the check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State, which covers the expediting fee ($60) for a total of $190, OR
  • Add $82.05 to the check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State, which covers the expediting fee ($60) and optional one-to-two-day return delivery ($22.05), for a total of $212.05.

For Minors (15 & Under):

  • Add $60 to the check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State, which covers the expediting fee ($60), for a total of $160, OR
  • Add $82.05 to the check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State, which covers the expediting fee ($60) and optional one-to-two-day delivery ($22.05), for a total of $182.05.

Overnight Delivery Service

Overnight delivery service is paid separately from the fees above.

A $33.25 postage-paid Express Mail envelope is available to purchase for overnight delivery of documents to the U.S. Department of State. Express Mail envelopes may also be purchased at the U.S. Post Office.

Note: For a group expediting multiple passports, one large postage-paid overnight envelope may be used for submitting applications.

Issuance

Processing time for an expedited passport application is up to three weeks (subject to change) from the date of application (not including mailing times).

The U.S. Department of State issues passports, not the Office of the Clerk & Comptroller.
